The Aston Martin F1 Team has announced that Nick de Vries will drive the AMR22 in the first free practice session of this week’s F1 Italian Grand Prix.
Nick de Vries will drive alongside Lance Stroll in place of Sebastian Vettel. Extensive simulator work is already underway at the Aston Martin F1 team’s Silverstone headquarters in preparation for the session.
The trip to Monza will be the 27-year-old Dutchman’s third FP1 start of the 2022 season. He replaced Alexander Albon at Williams in the Spanish Grand Prix and replaced Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes F1 team at the French Grand Prix.

Nick de Vries’ participation in Monza has been arranged under an agreement with the Mercedes F1 team, with all F1 teams participating in two free races using drivers who have never participated in two Grands Prix. This is to meet the 2022 regulations that require a practice session to be completed.
Aston Martin F1 has yet to confirm who will be in charge of the one remaining slot this year.
