Car fans with a penchant for petrol engines need to be strong now. Aston Martin says goodbye to the legendary V12 engine. The new V12 Vantage will be the last Vantage and will probably also be the last with the powerful twelve-cylinder unit. Because the future of the traditional brand from British Gaydon is also electric.
The Vantage has been the entry point into the world of Aston Martin for the past 15 years. With its compact size and significantly beefier appearance than DB11 or DBS he has made a name for himself as a muscle man on the racetrack.
12 cylinders with 700 hp
The final edition of the 4.51 meter long sports car draws attention to itself with its widened body and imposing 21-inch wheels. But its heart is the final stage of development of the 5.2-liter V12: the Aston engineers tickle 700 hp (515 kW) out of the engine for the Vantage. That’s only 25 hp respect distance to the flagship DBS. The maximum torque of 753 Nm is between 1800 and 6000 rpm.
The track was widened by four centimeters and a mechanical locking differential was installed so that the rear wheels can also bring this impressive engine output to the road. The chassis and the 8-speed automatic transmission have also been retuned for the higher engine output. The result: the rear-wheel drive sprints to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of over 320 km/h.
Slim down for the V12
An elaborate aerodynamics package improves traction and handling. At top speed, it generates 204 kilograms of additional downforce. Finally, Aston Martin slimmed down the Vantage to compensate for the extra weight of the V12. The exhaust system is 7.2 kilograms, the seats seven kilograms and the carbon brakes 23 kilograms lighter than the predecessor. The curb weight of the V12 is 1.7 tons.
The first copies will be delivered in the second quarter. The price? Completely irrelevant! The new and final Aston Martin V12 Vantage is limited to just 333 pieces worldwide and they are all sold out.
