Aston Villa thought they had taken a big step towards securing fourth place in the Premier League and qualification for the Champions League by taking a two-goal lead against Chelsea on Saturday: thanks first to an own goal from Marc Cucurella from the 4th minute, then with a nice strike from Rogers (42nd) who took over Cole Palmer’s celebration to celebrate his goal.
A goal from Disasi refused in added time
The Blues, however, raised their head in the second period thanks to two strikes from Noni Madueke (62nd) then from Conor Gallagher (81st) who found the top corner. Mauricio Pochettino’s players even thought they had won an unexpected victory when Axel Disasi scored with a header (90th + 5). After consulting the VAR, the goal was disallowed for a charge by Benoît Badiashile on Diego Carlos during the action.
Still ninth, with one or two games less than the teams ahead in the standings, Chelsea have not yet abandoned their hopes of European qualification.
