Astronaut Chris Hadfield will publish a new novel in October

Canadian astronaut and author Chris Hadfield will publish The Defector, his second novel in his career, on October 10. He says he was inspired by his experience as a pilot in the American and Canadian armed forces to write this fiction about the Soviet era.

The Defector follows the story of Kaz Zemeckis, NASA flight controller and former American test pilot. He finds himself at the heart of a high-level spy case after witnessing the disappearance of a Soviet fighter plane.

The author’s previous novel, Apollo, deadly mission (The Apollo Murders2021), had achieved great commercial success.

In recent decades, Chris Hadfield has seduced the public with his personality, but also thanks to his exploits as an astronaut. He became the first Canadian to perform a spacewalk in the early 2000s, then the first Canadian commander of the International Space Station 10 years later.

The fiction The Defector will be published by Random House Canada.
