At Aldi, Lidl, Edeka and Co.: cult liqueur is removed from the range

Another price war means that customers will soon have to do without a popular product. As Schilkin’s boss, Erlfried Baatz, told the Handelsblatt confirmedthe deliveries of the “Berliner Luft” to supermarkets and discounters such as Aldi, Lidl, Rewe or Edeka have been stopped.

According to Baatz, the dispute began as early as 2020. The group wanted to enforce a price increase in the “single digits” against Edeka, since a lot had previously been invested in new bottles and cardboard boxes. However, this was rejected. After the contracts expired, Schilkin stopped deliveries. The same game was repeated at Rewe, Lidl, Aldi and Kaufland.

Baatz told the Handelsblatt that it was “not a multinational company that could somehow blackmail the dealers”. However, the CEO does not want to give up just yet. In principle, it is therefore possible that the parties will come to an agreement in the near future and that the “Berliner Luft” bottles will be back on the shelves.

Since customers are apparently asking more and more about the iconic liqueur at the locations, the bottles can be purchased again from over 400 independent Edeka dealers. According to Baatz, the products are purchased directly from Schilkin or from specialist dealers.
