at how many kilometers should it be sold?

Best-seller in France, the Dacia Duster has overall good reliability. Here are the few failures it may have and the mileage at which you might experience them.

We no longer present the Dacia Duster. Compact SUV launched in 2010, he is largely responsible for the success of the Dacia brand in France. To the point of having been the fifth favorite car of the French in 2021, the first having been… the Dacia Sandero! A brand that continues to grow, for models that move upmarket year after year. The Duster is just as much a rational model that goes to the essentials only one comfortable and fun car to drive. The Dacias of 15 years ago are just a bad memory! With 5 seats, a large trunk and a level of equipment that does not need to be ashamedthe Duster offers one of the best quality/price ratios on the segment. But like any car, it may encounter reliability or quality problems with some of its components. We take stock after 100,000 kilometres.

Mechanical: some fragile parts

The first opus of the Duster had experienced many more setbacks (injectors and turbo on the DCi, fuel pump) than this second version.

  • In diesel, nothing to report this time apart from a diesel pump which can be noisy in the 1.5 DCi. Not enough to create a failure, however.
  • In essence the 1.2 TCe which fitted the first versions of the Duster is to be avoided! It is subject from 50,000 kilometers to very high oil consumption which can lead to engine failure. Nothing to report on the other hand for the other blocks.
  • About the manual gearbox, some 1.3 TCe owners have heard hissing noises coming from the transmission. No failure has been recorded so far, but if the problem persists, it must be replaced before 60,000 kilometers.

Electronics: (almost) nothing to report

No recurring anomaly has been reported concerning comfort and safety equipment. Only the instrument cluster may falsely show Adblue system bug. This may indicate “Fill Adblue” even though the level is correct, or the tank has just been filled. A minor minor fault, which can be corrected by a free system reset.

Materials: more problematic

The interior du Duster is very hardy. As this is an entry-level model, the impasse has been made on quality materials that are pleasant to the touch. Everything is hard plastic, from the door panel to the door trim. Some of these plastics may show signs of weakness over time, such as around the steering wheel where they may crumble.

Re bodywork, here too things have been done as a priority for the economy. The thin layer of paint can flake over time and more problematically, some parts can corrode. This is particularly the case for the side walls of the trunk and the exhaust line.

The Dacia Duster 2 therefore presents few mechanical problems and is not prone to major electronic bugs. The corrosion is to be taken very seriously, and should be monitored regularly! In view of this observation, it may be wise to sell it from 100,000 kilometers to be sure that these little worries cannot turn into real problems.
