According to the first reports, at least 30 people died in a train accident in India. Another 179 were hospitalized, media and officials reported on Friday. The Coromandel Express passenger train from Kolkata to Chennai collided with a freight train in the Balasore district of Odisha, derailed and then fell onto the opposite track.
Senior government official Pradeep Jena from Odisha wrote on Twitter: “Nearly 50 ambulances have called, but the number of injured seems far too high. A large number of buses are being mobilized to take the injured to the hospital.”
