Athletics association mourns with Lieke Klaver

The semi-final starts strangely. The Enkhuizer is the only one who does not get out of the blocks at the starting shot. A restart follows, as a warning Klaver receives a yellow card.

The race is also messy in the clubhouse, as if it was meant to be. Just before the race starts, the image freezes. While board member Wouter Meijerink tries to solve the problem, someone from the audience calls out to him: “Put a new battery in it.”

But that doesn’t help either. Klaver freezes when the starting shot sounds. “She won’t be disqualified, will she?” the barmaid wonders. John and his neighbor Jan are not reassured: “I think she moved.”

During the discussion between Klaver and a jury member, the image freezes again. The audience reacts laconically when the problem has still not been resolved after a minute. “All of Grootebroek now knows how it ended, except for us,” someone shouts. The audience bursts out laughing. Fortunately, there is connection again after the yellow card. Klaver is still allowed to participate. “She got off lightly,” John and Jan think.
