Kambundji misses the medal for ten hundredths
The Bernese sprinter took fifth place in the 100m at the world championships in Eugene (Oregon). She ran two hundredths off her Swiss record.
Mujinga Kambundji failed to win a medal in the 100m at the world championships in Eugene (Oregon), but she has no regrets to have. She took fifth place in the final, finishing her straight in 10”91, two hundredths of a second from her Swiss record, set this year.
The 30-year-old sprinter from Bern, indoor world champion in the 60m last winter, finished 10 hundredths from the podium. She therefore has no regrets to have, since she would have had to smash her national record to win a medal.
“It’s my fifth world title in the 100m, and it’s coming at 35, yes I said 35!”
The victory went to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, crowned world champion in the 100m for the fifth time at 35 years old. She won in 10”67 ahead of two other Jamaicans, Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah. No one had ever run so fast in the world final.
“I firmly believe that I am able to run faster, and as I believe in it, I will not stop until I have done it”, launched in the mixed zone the Caribbean, who, as his compatriots, did not appear at a press conference.
“The secret of my success is that I am a competitor. I love competition and I believe God gave me a gift. I work hard, I’m diligent, determined, and I always want more,” continued the one who still has to run the 200m and 4x100m in Eugene.
“It’s my fifth world title in the 100m, and it’s 35 years old, yes I said 35 years old!” Smiled the triple Olympic champion and now tenfold world champion. “It’s amazing. Above all, I have always believed in myself, I have always believed in my abilities.
“It was definitely something we had in mind,” she added, referring to Jamaica’s hat-trick in the women’s 100m final. “I’m happy that we were able to do it, and to have finished first of the three. We knew that the United States had done the triple in the 100m, we couldn’t let them steal the show from us!
Does his son Zyon, born in the summer of 2017, follow his exploits? “My husband and my son were in the stands. But they don’t really like to be in the light, so they sit up high so that no one sees them,” said the sprinter again.
