AT&T customer data leaked

NEW YORK (EFE).— The company AT&T reported yesterday that it is investigating an incident in which information from millions of customers, such as their address and social security number, were published two weeks ago on the deep internet (Darkweb), which is accessed on most of the time through specific applications and browsers.

The company indicated in a press release that although it took that action, it is not yet known whether the data in those fields originated from AT&T or one of its providers and also includes former customers.

The investigation is being conducted by internal and external cybersecurity experts to determine how the data of nearly 7.6 million customers and some 65.4 million former account holders ended up there.

The preliminary analysis carried out by the company indicates that these data are from 2019 or earlier, the press release adds.

“AT&T has no evidence of unauthorized access to its systems that resulted in data breaches,” the company said.

Last February, the firm apologized to thousands of users affected by a service interruption caused by technical problems that affected thousands of people in Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York.
