The writer Augustos Korto, was today (23.03.2024) a guest on the show “Two at 10” on ERT and talked about moments from his life that stigmatized him, such as the suicide attempt he made.
“I was looking for carnal contact from a very early age. I knew very well that what attracted me was the boy’s body, inside me, in terms of desire and the feeling of desire, I was completely free”, Augustus Corto initially said, talking about the fact that he is attracted to people of the same sex .
“I survived her suicide, I struggled with bipolar disorder. Suicide is one of the biggest social taboos, it should be treated as what it is, as the extreme symptom of a serious disease. After her suicide I was hospitalized, no person sees the psychiatric hospital as redemption”, confessed Augustus Korto about his mother’s death.
As for the moment when he himself tried to end his life: “I took the pills in the living room, went to the bedroom door, sat on the edge of the bed, at that moment I remember saying to myself: “No, what he did Katerina, I won’t do that to Tasso, she won’t wake up to find me dead next to him”, said Augustus Korto.
