After that, Jannik Sinner will meet Stefanos Tsitsipas, fourth in the world rankings, in the second Grand Slam quarterfinal of his career.
At the beginning of the night session, world number two Daniil Medvedev will face number nine in the world, Félix Auger-Aliassime.
Here is an overview of the appointments for Wednesday.
Australian Open – schedule for the quarterfinals on Wednesday at a glance:
(times in CET)
Rod Laver Arena
From 1:00 a.m.:
- Danielle Collins (USA/27) – Alizé Cornet (FRA)
Danielle Collins surprisingly made it to the semifinals of the Australian Open in 2019. Of course, she would like to repeat this coup on Wednesday. The quarter-final appearance is a premiere for her opponent. Alizé Cornet is in the top eight in a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.
Not before 3:00 a.m.:
- Every Swiatek (POL / 7) – Kaia Kanepi (EST)
With her two-set win against Sorana Cirstea, Iga Swiatek is in the quarter-finals of the Happy Slam for the first time. A win against Kaia Kanepi would take her another step towards her second Grand Slam title. But be careful: On her way to the quarter-finals, Kanepi has already eliminated the 2016 Australian Open winner, Angelique Kerber, (in the first round) and the world number two Aryna Sabalenka (in the round of 16). Kanepi is playing in a Grand Slam quarterfinal for the seventh time, but for the first time in Melbourne.
Not before 5:00 a.m.:
- Jannik Sinner (ITA / 11) – Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE / 4)
Jannik Sinner has the historic chance to reach the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time on Wednesday. Stefanos Tsitsipas, on the other hand, has a clearly ambitious goal: after having reached a Grand Slam semi-final four times and losing to Novak Djokovic in the final of the French Open, the first major title is now to come. Tsitsipas could also reach the semifinals in Melbourne for the second time in a row.
Night session from 9:30 a.m.:
- Félix Auger-Aliassime (CAN/9) – Daniil Medvedev (RUS/2)
Félix Auger-Aliassime is in the quarterfinals of a major tournament for the third time in a row. It’s a first for the Canadian in Australia. Things are different with Daniil Medvedev. Last year he was in the final in Melbourne, but had to admit defeat to Novak Djokovic there. Since Djokovic was not even allowed to take part and Alexander Zverev has already been eliminated, the Russian is now probably the hottest contender for the title.
