Austria Salzburg still unstoppable – BSK loses and refrains from protesting

Austria Salzburg is the measure of all things in the Regionalliga West: The Violets defeated Kufstein 3-1 on Saturday and celebrated their sixth win in six games. Saalfelden also got a threesome. Bischofshofen, on the other hand, had to accept a narrow bankruptcy.

“A well-deserved victory,” said Austria coach Christian Schaider, who was able to celebrate after just eight minutes of the home game against Kufstein. Lukas Alterdinger scored the 1-0 in front of around 1200 spectators. As a result, the Violets stayed on the trigger, but failed several times at the strong Tyrolean goalie Mario Stockreiter. But he was powerless in the 38th minute: Marinko Sorda made it 2-0 after a combination worth seeing. Only three minutes later, the guests surprisingly scored the goal, but Austria didn’t let that upset them.

Fötschl scores after a counterattack

The second half was also one-sided. Austria put the pressure on but were unable to take advantage of their chances for a long time. In the final phase, however, the time had come: after a counterattack, Yannic Fötschl, who is still in top form, was there and made it 3:1. “The team has been working very well for weeks and is currently in top form. It can of course continue like this,” says Schaider.

Bischofshofen does not protest

On the other hand, there was nothing to gain for Bischofshofen. The Pongauer lost in Imst with 1:2. After being 2-0 down at the break, Mohamed Khalil only managed to get back the goal in the second half. Away from the field there was a fair gesture from the BSK: Although Grödig used Matthias Strobl in the state cup victory against Bischofshofen during the week who was not eligible to play, the Pongauer refrain from protesting. The fault was not with the club or the player, but with the association. The SFV stated IT problems for the late sending of the complaint against Strobl.

Saalfelden stays on Austria’s heels

Thanks to an early goal by Lukas Moosmann (11th), Saalfelden celebrated a narrow 1-0 win in Dornbirn. The Pinzgauer were able to win their fifth game in a row and are still the first hunters of table leaders Austria Salzburg. Already on Friday St. Johann and Grünau parted with 1:1.
