Austrian Chancellor called the condition for discussing Ukraine’s membership in the EU

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said that a serious discussion of the possible entry of Ukraine into the European Union can only begin following the restoration of the country.

In an interview with NBC television, he stressed that he had already told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, that the first thing Kyiv should do was get “quick and confident support.”

As Nehammer pointed out, we are talking regarding a plan for the restoration of Ukraine “together with the United States, Great Britain, the European Union.” And only then can a serious discussion of EU membership begin.

Nehammer also warns that his country will not be able to refuse gas from Russia for several more years. He recalled that Austria is 80 percent dependent on Russian gas. At the same time, he called the situation the same as with Germany. Both there and there industry and households need gas.
