It is rare that a leading economic researcher and the finance minister in Austria have such a public argument as Christoph Badelt and Magnus Brunner are currently having. On the surface, it’s regarding one number, the budget deficit this year. While the President of the Fiscal Council is convinced that the deficit will break through the three percent mark set by the EU due to the weak economy and generous spending policy, the Finance Minister is confident that it will remain below it once more.
