Autograph Collection Hotels and Photographic, the contemporary museum of photography, art and culture, announce a collaborative cultural project to be unveiled in multiple cities worldwide over the coming months, premiering July 21 in New York City. In “Impressions”, four award-winning photographers who were guests at the Autograph Collection hotels show their perspective on extraordinary places and open up new dimensions and fresh perspectives with the help of photography.
With installations at Fotografiska museums and Autograph Collection hotels around the world, the collaboration invites art lovers to experience Berlin, San Pedro (Belize), Oklahoma City and Tokyo through new original works and short films that explore the creative process and inspiration of each Illuminate photographers. Impressions also includes limited edition art prints that will be available online at Fotografiska.com and at select Autograph Collection Hotels. During his stay in Hotel Luc, Autograph Collection, Norwegian photojournalist Jonas Bendiksen went in search of spontaneous moments of inspiration and gathering on the streets of Berlin. In the world of de Middel’s photography, nothing is what it seems. Often the strange appears as ordinary and the ordinary as strange. This is intentional. In San Pedro, the intensity of light and color became the starting point for experiments, games and discoveries.Gregory Halpern, American photographer and professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology, created during his stay in the The National, Autograph Collection a dynamic, emotional portrait of Oklahoma City through unconventional encounters with its people and landscape. Halpern likes to get to know a place in a roundabout way by visiting unusual places and making unusual acquaintances. In Oklahoma City, that meant spending time at boxing gyms, a barber shop, at a rodeo, and exploring new and old parts of town Mesm Tokyo, Autograph Collection, American photographer Alessandra Sanguinetti explored Tokyo in search of character and secrets to reveal unseen dimensions. Sanguinetti uses contrasts to reveal life beneath the surface, life we don’t always see. Her images, which use light and dark to dramatic effect, offer powerful glimpses into the rich interiors and textures of ordinary Tokyo life.

The “Impressions” project will be presented at Fotografiska New York from July 21st (on view until the end of August) and then migrate to the soon-to-be-opened Fotografiska locations in Berlin and Shanghai in the coming months.
