The World Health Organization (WHO) mentioned this Friday, February 24, 2023 a “worrying situation” in relation to the avian flu epidemic, after two cases in humans in Cambodia including one death, even if it underlines that there is still no evidence of transmission between humans, reports the newspaper West France.

The WHO had never expressed such concern since the start of the epidemic which is raging all over the world and mainly strikes farmed birds (duck, chicken, turkey). Cases of transmission to mammals have also been recorded. Transmission to humans is very rare.

“It is too early to know if this is a transmission between humans or if it is linked to a common exposure to the same environment”, declared Sylvie Briand, responsible for the prevention of pandemics within the WHO, according to our colleagues.
