Axel Witsel confirms his departure from Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season

The Red Devil confirmed its decision on Saturday after its team’s home defeat to Bochum (3-4) in a German championship match. “We concede too many goals, we have to improve that next season,” he told reporters. “I say ‘we’, but I won’t be here next season,” added the 33-year-old.

At the end of the 2018 World Cup, Witsel arrived in Dortmund from the Chinese club Tianjin. His contract ends on June 30 and Borussia did not wish to extend it. Trained at Standard, the defensive midfielder from Liège joined Benfica in July 2011 and in September 2012 it was at Zenit Saint-Pétserbourg that he left his suitcases before attempting the adventure in China between January 2017 and August 2018. If no information official has filtered on the future of the Red Devil at 120 caps, rumors send him to MLS, the North American championship.
