Ba Chua Festival – Thi Nuoc Man Port welcomes with national intangible heritage

On February 19, Tuy Phuoc district (Binh Dinh province) welcomed the national intangible cultural heritage with the Ba Chua Festival – Thi Nuoc Man Port at Chua Ba, An Hoa hamlet, Phuoc Quang commune.

Ba Chua Festival – Thi Nuoc Man Port was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national intangible cultural heritage under Decision No. 1839/QD-BVHTTDL dated August 4, 2022.

This is one of the traditional festivals with a large scale and early birth in Binh Dinh. Every year, the festival is held for 3 days (from the last day of the first lunar month to the 2nd day of the second lunar month).

The festival takes place with many rituals and beliefs typical of the ancient port area. Among them are peace prayers, sacrifices, sacrifices to the gods who have blessed seafarers, traders, protected the spiritual and material life of the people, and protected the mother’s birth. round and square.

The festival also has a ceremony to honor the deity of color procession – procession with the symbols of fish, tieu, soup, and item with images such as people cutting trees, clearing mangroves; farmers break their fields to embankment; fishermen cast nets for fishing; cattle breeder… to commemorate and honor his father’s enlightened merits for turning the coastal swamp into a bustling commercial port city.

The festival part takes place with many folk games such as playing card games, singing tuong … attracting a large number of people and tourists to participate.

Nuoc Man port town was born in the early 17th century, is a large, important and busy port in Dang Trong for trade and cultural exchange between Binh Dinh and countries in the region and the world.

Nuoc Man is also the place where the research on Latinization of Vietnamese took place, making an important contribution to the creation of Quoc Ngu script in Vietnam.

From 1610, when the port town of Nuoc Man entered a prosperous period, Ba Pagoda was built. At first, it was a simple temple to serve the religious needs of a part of the people. They often come here to go to Mass, express their gratitude to Thien Hau Holy Mother for helping them safely migrate to a new land, and at the same time pray for a prosperous and full life.

Gradually, when they settled down, lost their jobs and prospered, Nuoc Man port town also became busy, some merchants contributed money to make the temple more spacious and beautiful, from then on. The name “Ba Temple” was born.
