Rainfall in Limpio exceeded 100 millimeters, according to mayor

Asunción, IP Agency.- The mayor of Limpio, Optaciano Gómez, reported that the rains recorded this Wednesday reached 115 millimeters in about four hours, an unprecedented event in the municipality of the Central department. Many streets in the city were flooded and several families had to be rescued.

In this context, the city’s municipal board met this Wednesday, in an extraordinary session, and made the decision to declare a state of road and health emergency due to the damage caused by the storm.

Gómez described as impressive the amount of rain recorded between early morning and morning of this Wednesday in his city, a situation that generated the overflowing of the Damián stream and flooding in the surrounding area.

The mayor indicated that the amount of water that fell reached 115 millimeters in about four hours, a situation that led to a large number of flooded streets.

He mentioned that Limpio is the sixth most populated city in the country, hence the need for greater intervention by the central government in collaboration with the municipal administration, in order to undertake works for the benefit of the people. He stated that “it is impossible on their own” to respond to all the needs of the citizens of Limeña.

“We are helping people with everything we have, what happened today is a lesson to improve projects with the help of the central government,” he mentioned in communication with 1020 AM.

Assistance with support from the Armed Forces

In this context, Volunteer Firefighters with support from the Armed Forces promote a series of procedures to rescue families affected by the floods both in Limpio and in other locations.

These actions are carried out on instructions from the Minister of National Defense Óscar González, for the purposes of safeguarding the integrity of the population.
