Red Bull lived a real nightmare during the Bahrin GP from last weekend. Max Verstappen and Checo Prez had to abandon the race due to mechanical failure and Helmut Marko revealed that the fuel pump was the reason for this mishap.
“Speaking to Sky Sports Formula 1 Germany, Helmut Marko confirmed that both Red Bull cars had the same problem and not enough fuel was getting to their engine. Verstappen also had a steering wheel problem which was perhaps caused by the jack during the pit stop,” Auto Motor und Sport’s Tobias Grner commented on his official Twitter account.
This was the second time in three years that Milton Keynes has gone without a single point in the first race of the season. In 2020 the same thing happened to them at the Austrian GP, after Verstappen abandoned due to a power problem and that of Alexander Albon after a collision with Lewis Hamilton.
The silver lining for Red Bull is that both cars came close to victory and the podium. and in the next race in Saudi Arabia they will seek to reverse the situation.
