Baldur’s Gate 3 offers players almost infinite freedom in the way they approach its different quests. This of course led to players trying to find ways around the game.

Fortunately, Larian Studios seems to have thought of everything. One player discovered an example of the developer’s incredible foresight. Indeed, after killing a character in Act 2 before his quest had actually begun, he found that the game adapted to this decision.

Reddit user u/Own_Pause_4959 shared what happened when he managed to kill Marcus before his plan to kidnap Isobel was revealed.

The player first used the Immobilize Humanoid Spell and succeeded in killing him. This made it possible to avoid triggering the cutscene and entering into combat with the entire inn. Isobel then appeared. As Marcus was not yet revealed as an enemy, Isobel was understandably confused. However, the player was able to explain that Marcus had a larva.

While there were some minor inconsistencies, such as the building itself appearing to have been damaged in the attack, this allowed the game to continue as if nothing had happened.

Given that the player isn’t supposed to know Marcus’ plan and that Jaheira, Isobel, and others believe him to be a loyal ally, it would make sense that the game wouldn’t know how to handle the situation.

The fact that there is an alternative in case the player kills him earlier shows how much care Larian put into the scenario.

Other players in the comments praised Baldur’s Gate 3’s writing. One fan compared it to ” play with a real MD » in the tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons.

Some pointed out other brilliant examples of foresight from the developer. For example, Isobel having specific lines if you already have the Pixie’s Blessing when you meet her.
