Baltimore’s defense has also been stellar outside the sacks, one of the main reasons defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald has gotten ample head coaching buzz. The Ravens allow the lowest opponent yards per play (4.2), are second in defensive EPA, and are fifth in opponent success rate.

They have done all this despite Pro Bowl cornerback Marlon Humphrey playing in only five games due to injury this season. Humphrey has been limited this week with a calf injury but could return on Sunday, making life that much more difficult for the Chargers offense.

Despite ranking 7th in EPA/play, Los Angeles is just 14th in offensive success rate this season, which matches the film of an offense that should be good, by all accounts, but struggles with down-to-down consistency. The Chargers are also not well equipped to take advantage of Baltimore’s weaknesses on defense: the Ravens are worse against the run than the pass, but LA ranks 26th in EPA/rush attempt even after one of Austin Ekeler’s most efficient games of the season last week.
