Bank deposits in Morocco exceed 1,000 billion dirhams

Deposits with banks recorded, at the end of December 2021, an annual increase of 5.2% to stand at 1,061.9 billion dirhams (MMDH), according to the dashboard “credits and bank deposits” of Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM).

Household deposits stood at 786.4 billion dirhams, an annual increase of 4% with 185.8 billion dirhams held by Moroccans residing abroad (MRE), while deposits from private companies increased by 8.2 % to 170.4 billion dirhams, specifies the Central Bank.

At the end of December 2021, the interest rates on 6-month and 12-month term deposits increased by 4 basis points and 2 points to stand at 2.19% and 2.19% respectively. 53%.

For savings accounts, their minimum rate of return was set at 1.05% for the first half of 2022, an increase of 2 basis points compared to the previous half.
