“Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” remain strong in theaters a week after its release

NEW YORK (AP) — A week following its release, the boom for “Barbenheimer” hasn’t abated.

Seven days following Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” conspired to set box office records, the two films held unusually strong in theaters. “Barbie” grossed $93 million in its second weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Pink pop sensation “Barbie” has also surpassed Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” for the best first two weeks in theaters of any Warner Bros. release. United States and Canada, a rate that will soon make it the biggest blockbuster of the summer. Every day it’s played, “Barbie” earns at least $20 million.

Universal Pictures’ “Oppenheimer” once more came in second with an estimated $46.2 million. It was also especially strong in its second weekend, with sales down just 44%. Nolan’s three-hour drama starring Cillian Murphy as atomic bomb physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer has amassed $174.1 million so far.

“Oppenheimer” has already surpassed $400 million worldwide.
