Many complain about the amount the police can issue in fines. In Barcelona, citizens have all the more right to protest since they are in the presence of the most efficient police officer on the continent. With a record 7.5 million euros in fines in one year according to local media, Officer 541 managed to beat the other nine Barcelona police officers. However, each of them imposed more than a million euros in fines, a considerable total sum which represents almost 982,000 fines.
According to figures communicated by the municipality of Barcelona, agent 541 imposed 69,840 fines alone. The overwhelming majority of them were speeding incidents detected using a mobile radar, as reported by the Spanish newspaper El Confidencial.
The police officer in second place issued 4.5 million euros in fines. Next comes the agent who brought in the most money without using any equipment, namely 4.2 million euros. To arrive at this amount, he fined 9,000 drivers for running red lights.
