Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel talks about his former companion Bo Svensson after the Hoffenheim game and struggles to find the right words.

Munich – A bitter day for Bayern Munich. The hoped-for reaction to the 0: 3 during the week in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League at Manchester City did not materialize. The team coached by Thomas Tuchel only drew against TSG Hoffenheim and is only two points ahead of second-placed BVB thanks to Stuttgart’s last-minute equalizer against Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern Munich: Tuchel dejected

Tuchel, who still spoke highly of his team after the bankruptcy in England, looked visibly depressed after the game against Kraichgau. “It wasn’t nearly what we imagined. I think that overall we played with very little energy, pace and conviction. It wasn’t where we want to go. I didn’t see it coming. We have to digest that first,” said Julian Nagelsmann’s successor after the game.

At the microphone of ZDF the 49-year-old was asked about his former companion Bo Svensson, who was a guest at the “Aktuelle Sportstudio” that evening. “Of course it’s a mean time now,” said a sad Bayern coach right after the game. “Because Bo deserves only the best words, he’s a great guy and as a player he has shown a great understanding of the game.”

Even then, Tuchel could imagine that Svensson had the potential to become head coach “if he commits himself to it and falls in love with this job.” It was obviously difficult for the Bayern coach to find the right words, so shortly after the disappointment against TSG Hoffenheim. “Sorry, that’s a bit harder for me right now,” confirmed the 49-year-old ZDF-Micro. “I am happy with the path he has taken. But he alone is responsible for this development.”

FC Bayern Munich: Tuchel praises Mainz coach Svensson

Mainz coach Bo Svensson returned Thomas Tuchel’s praise directly. “He is a special coach, a special person for me. I certainly wouldn’t be where I am without him,” said the Dane in the “Aktuelle Sportstudio”, who believes that his old companion will get the situation at Bayern under control: “As I know Bayern, when the pressure is greatest, when they have the most to prove, they often give the right answer.”

From times together, Svensson played under Tuchel in Mainz for five years between 2009 and 2014, among other things he remembered his team leadership, speech and meticulousness. “I don’t think we had any training work in the fifth year that we had in the first year,” enthused the 43-year-old.
