BB.lv: In 3 years we will be able to charge an electric car on every EU highway

From 2035, the sale of gasoline and diesel vehicles will be banned in the EU. Brussels is preparing for changes.

These cars have traveled thousands of kilometers across Europe to prove that long-distance travel in electric vehicles is now possible. These cars and their drivers arrived in Brussels for a meeting of European transport ministers.

“Traveling in an electric car is always a little more difficult than in a conventional car. We were driving from Romania and for the first time we tried not to make any plans. We just drove like a regular car and when the charge was 20-30%, we started looking for a place to charge,” says Alexandru Teodorescu.

One of the main problems with driving electric cars is the lack of charging stations. Typically they need to be charged every 300-400 km, and this process takes at least 20 minutes.

But after the introduction of a ban on the sale of cars with internal combustion engines in the EU from 2035, the European Commission will have to somehow solve the problem of mobility.

“The problem has not been solved. But from today there is a new regulation on the trans-European transport network, which provides for the mandatory placement of charging points along main roads,” said European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valyan.

It is expected that by 2026, every motorway in the EU will have a charging station every 60 kilometers. This will greatly facilitate the use of electric vehicles in Europe.
