The Tesla Cybertruck could have direct competition: Who will manufacture it?

Dongfeng, the Chinese automaker, showed off a pickup truck concept that looks suspiciously similar to the Tesla Cybertruck.

The manufacturer says it has about 1,305 horsepower, but there are no details on the battery, performance and range. Details are scarce, but reports indicate that the truck produces slightly more power than the 845-hp Cybertruck Cyberbeast, the Lucid Air Sapphire, and numerous supercars.

It features a rear-mounted tent like the Cybertruck and borrows several styling cues from its American counterpart.

Called a concept truck, it’s clear that the Tesla Cybertruck was a big influence on the design of Dongfeng’s eye-catching pickup truck.

While the Cybertruck copy is clear, the truck concept is more rounded and smooth, and the body is not made of stainless steel.

The front has a familiar light bar for the daytime running lights, with the headlights positioned lower in the thick black bumper.

There is also a skid plate and closed lines that suggest the presence of a frunk. On the side you can also see traces of the Volkswagen ID. The shape stands out, especially the glass house and the lines of the windows.

Unlike the Cybertruck, the Dongfeng features suicide doors, commonly found on luxury cars such as the Rolls-Royce Phantom or the imposing Genesis Neolun Concept.

There are no visible door handles, suggesting the Dongfeng will have electric doors or at least cleverly hidden handles.

The lack of traditional handles likely helps aerodynamic efficiency, as do the wheel covers. Getting into the truck is easier than expected, thanks to the retractable side steps.

The rear of the Dongfeng Concept truck is perhaps the most distinctive, moving away from the Cybertruck styling with more conventional taillights and an unusual split-opening tailgate, like you’d find on a commercial truck. The tent, however, looks very similar to the $2,975 Cybertent.

The interior of the concept is quite interesting, according to journalists who saw it, with a screen that spans the entire width of the cabin, a square steering wheel and seats with forged carbon fiber trim on the backrests.

But will this truck go into production?

It’s not yet known if Dongfeng will make this concept a reality, but Chinese automakers like to deliver some truly outlandish cars to the buying public, and they’re achieving their goal.
