BB.lv: Official: the epidemic is over in Latvia

Data from monitoring the incidence of 1) influenza and 2) acute respiratory infections indicate that over the past two weeks the number of patients in Latvia who have been clinically diagnosed with influenza has not exceeded 100 cases per 100,000 population.

Therefore, the Central Clinical Hospital announces the end of the influenza epidemic on April 25, 2024.

Influenza activity is below seasonal levels (baseline intensity), and influenza intensity and spread are decreasing compared to the previous week.

However, the circulation of the influenza virus continues, and last week a total of 20 cases of influenza were registered in six administrative territories (Ventspils, Rezekne, Jekabpils, Jurmala, Daugavpils and Riga).

Since the start of the season, family practice doctors in Latvia have reported 3,442 clinically confirmed cases of influenza.

The intensity of influenza this season is assessed as average. In the second week of 2024, the average intensity of influenza increased significantly and exceeded the baseline level, leading to the declaration of an influenza epidemic on January 12, 2024.

This season, the highest number of flu cases is observed in the age group from 0 to 14 years.

And about covid. Since the start of the season, 54,370 laboratory tests for the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus have been carried out in Latvia, of which 8,236 were positive. 7,210 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized.
