BB.lv: Regional trips: prices are rising

Now a train from Riga to Liepaja costs 7.40 euros – it will cost 8.90 euros.

A ticket there by bus will rise in price by almost two euros and will cost 10.40 euros.

You can travel to Salaspils by train or bus for 2 euros (currently 1.10 and 1.45, respectively).

A bus ticket to Bauska will increase in price to 3.60 euros from April 1st.

A trip to Sigulda, both by train and by bus, will cost 2.5 euros.

The Road Transport Directorate explains that over the past three years, state spending on public transport in the regions has increased sharply – the subsidy from the budget has doubled. The passenger pays only a third of the trip with his own money. That’s why it’s necessary to raise travel prices, according to the Motor Transport Directorate.

What else will change:

* a single minimum fare will appear. In Riga – 1.5 euros. In cities and regions – less.

In the largest cities of the country the minimum payment will be 1 euro, and in other cities and regions of Latvia – 70 cents.

* a new type of “Train+” tickets will appear. It will be possible to travel with it not only on the train, but also on the bus, which will take the passenger from the station or to the station.

* in addition to single-use tickets, there will also be monthly passes. They will be more profitable for those who travel frequently – a monthly ticket should pay for itself from the 21st trip.
