Fake iPhone 13s have been sold on private classifieds sites such as Kijiji, prompting authorities to warn of this type of fraud just days away from the last Christmas shopping.

A recent case involved the sale of iPhone 13 Pro Max devices, which were delivered in what appears to be an actual box of Apple-branded phones.
“The phones look like an iPhone 13, and even say it’s an iPhone 13 in their settings. However, they actually run on an Android operating system,” Kingston police said in a statement on Wednesday.
Police have therefore urged Canadians to be wary of such items being sold by strangers and to turn to legitimate retailers instead.
“Be alert to red flags such as lower than average prices and the fact that the seller wants to meet you in front of a building or other public place rather than at his home,” he said.
