Because of the Ukrainian invasion, UEFA besieges Russia with new sanctions

The European Football Association “UEFA” decided to impose new sanctions against Russia, in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Russia was subjected to many sanctions at the sporting level, most notably the denial of its national team from completing the European qualifying for the World Cup.

UEFA issued an official statement saying that “Russia has been excluded from the European Women’s Championship scheduled for next July.”

“Also, Russia was excluded from next year’s World Cup qualifiers following the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” he added.

He added, “UEFA prevented Russia from submitting bids to host the 2028 and 2032 European Championships for men.”

He added a new penalty, “Russian clubs will not be allowed to compete in European competitions next season.”

UEFA said its decision to exclude Russia was in line with its regulations which state that every bidder must “not act in a manner that could defame UEFA, the game or the bidding process itself”.

Russia will not participate in Group B of League B in the UEFA Nations League, and will automatically take fourth place in the standings.

As a result, Russia will be relegated at the end of the group stage, occupying 16th and last place in the second division.

Russia will also not participate in the final tournament of the Futsal Nations Cup, which includes Portugal, Spain and Ukraine, to be held between July 1 and 3 in Portugal, and Hungary will participate in its place.

Russian clubs were also excluded from the European Futsal Champions League, the Women’s Nations Championship, and the 2024 World Cup qualifiers.
