While farmers are expressing their anger throughout France, the local CGT Union in Grasse (1,000 members) is not left out. Ready to mobilize for the day of action on February 1, with a meeting scheduled at Place Masséna in Nice at 10 a.m.

At the start of the year, and after the announcements of President Macron’s press conference, the union wanted to highlight the issues affecting two public services: education and the psychiatry department of Grasse hospital.

Education: no to uniform

“We don’t have the means to implement the announcements. For the doubling of civics and theater, we don’t have any extra hours at the start of the next school year.” indicated in the preamble Olivier Clerc, teacher at Tocqueville high school and treasurer of the local union. Among the controversial measures, the uniform. “This proposal is supposed to fight against inequalities. The CGT Educ’ Action 06 affirms that this is not the case. On the contrary, by allocating resources that could be put elsewhere, this can only reinforce inequalities. In our department, there are 165,000 students. The State and communities are preparing to spend €33 per year to equip students if the measure were to be generalized after the tests. Nationally, that’s 10 million students at a cost of 2 billion euros each year. This sum represents the salary of nearly 28,000 teachers!

The CGT Educ’Action 06 requests that these resources be allocated instead to buses for school trips, increasing the number of teachers and renovating school buildings. »

Psychiatry in difficulty

Regarding psychiatry, Candice Julou, CGT secretary of Hospitallers, points out “the need for treatment of mental illnesses. There is distress in the population. Since Covid, people have created pathologies.”

The problem of the lack of human resources in this department (33 patients) and the lack of attractiveness is denounced. “Until the recruitment of a caregiver to help the nurses!”

Another problem: “The psychiatric nurse diploma has disappeared. However, the management of mental illness is very specific.” Finally, this service was the victim of flooding at the end of the year. “If 650,000 euros were released by management to redo the roof, the work has not started.”

“A lack of staff”

Virginie Cattenati, psychiatric nurse: “We lack doctors, psychiatrists, paramedics. Out of 18 positions, there were only 8 nurses for the Christmas holidays. Very complicated. As a result, we work a lot of overtime. A colleague works 400 per year “Our patients have difficulty accessing medical care due to lack of staff, some even have to consult in town.”
