Belgian Public Service Websites Hit by Cyber Attacks: Recovery and Updates

2023-10-16 04:52:00

Several Belgian public service websites affected by computer problems on Sunday were accessible once more at dawn on Monday.

The websites of the FPS Finance, the Prime Minister’s chancellery and even the monarchy were available for consultation around 4:00 a.m. Monday, Belga noted. The Senate website, however, was still inaccessible.

Computer problems disrupted the operation of several public service websites on Sunday. The FPS Finances had notably reported, via X (formerly Twitter), a “hacker attack”.

Several websites of Belgian institutions had already been victims of a DDOS (denial of service) cyberattack on Thursday. That of the Royal Palace, the Prime Minister and the Senate were then made temporarily unavailable.

Instead of the home page there was a message in English referring to Belgian aid provided to Ukraine, including the promise made on Wednesday to send F-16s in 2025.
