Belvì Biodiversity Association launches social inclusion project in Gennargentu

The ancient chestnut groves of Gennargentu are transforming into community fitness and social hubs throughout November, as the Belvì Biodiversity Association launches “Affustigare per il sociale.” Presented to the Fondazione di Sardegna, the project uses outdoor sports, traditional games, and local products to combat sedentariness and isolation among mountain residents.

Fitness Formats Bridge Gaps Between Elderly and Younger Participants

  • Community Engagement: Intergenerational fitness formats bridge local demographic gaps, integrating elderly participants with younger cohorts.
  • Recovery Protocols: Gentle gymnastics and yoga sessions offer low-impact mobility training designed for non-athletes and senior participants.

Revitalizing Mountain Trails Through Active Movement

Running from November 1 through November 29, the initiative shifts focus away from traditional tourism and toward physical well-being. The program opens with a yoga session nestled directly inside the chestnut woods, followed by local chestnut tastings, regional Mandrolisai wines, and live musical accompaniment.

Subsequent sessions tackle different facets of physical health and cultural heritage. On November 14, organizers host a dedicated gentle gymnastics workshop tailored specifically for seniors and individuals who do not routinely engage in organized physical exercise.

Date Primary Activity Secondary Focus
November 1 Yoga among chestnut trees Mandrolisai wine & live music
November 14 Gentle gymnastics Social inclusion & senior mobility
November 22 Traditional village games Intergenerational dialogue
November 29 Urban wine and distillation route E-bike and walking tours

Bridging Generations with Traditional Sports

Physical movement extends beyond solo exercise into structured cultural heritage on November 22. Public village squares host traditional games designed to spark dialogue between age groups. Older residents guide younger participants through the rules, gestures, and memories of historical pastimes.

«Chestnuts, Mandrolisai wines, popular games and artisanal knowledge are tools for relationships and cultural transmission», explains Sebastiano Casula, president of the Belvì Biodiversity Association, outlining how local products serve as vehicles for community cohesion.

The final scheduled event on November 29 trades standard athletic movement for an active urban tasting route. Participants traverse local cellars either on foot or via e-bike, studying traditional vinification and distillation methods while engaging directly with regional producers.
