Jagdeep Dhankar has been the Governor of West Bengal since 30 July 2019. Former Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Captain Amarinder Singh, Kerala Governor Arif Muhammad Khan, Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, Former Union Minister S.S. Ahluwalia and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri were the candidates from the first stage.
Meanwhile, the Congress will call a meeting of the opposition parties on Sunday to decide the vice-presidential candidate of the opposition. Congress sources said this would be after the party leaders’ meetings called by the government, the Speaker and the Vice President on Sunday ahead of the annual session of Parliament. After the announcement of the presidential candidate, when there is a division in the opposition parties, an effort is being made to choose the vice-presidential candidate carefully.
