Karim Benzema has withdrawn his appeal against a prison sentence handed down in a case involving a sex tape blackmail controversy involving his teammate Matthew Valbuena. Benzema’s lawyer said the appeal was withdrawn because the length of proceedings in the case had upset the player.
Some people tried to extort money from Valbuena by showing him a sex tape before the friendly match against Armenia six years ago. Benzema’s role came to light when Valbuena took legal action against those who blackmailed him.

Benzema lost his place in the French national team for many years following this highly controversial case. The player, who missed tournaments including the 2018 World Cup, will later return to the France squad ahead of Euro 2020. Meanwhile, the verdict against Benzema in the case came and the player filed an appeal against it.
“The player is withdrawing his appeal because of a disturbance in court proceedings. It is legally true that he accepts the sentence, but that is not true.
