The particular situation should end at the beginning of April. Federal Councilor Alain Berset and the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Health Directors (CDS) met on Monday to prepare for this return to a normal situation.

“It is a question of determining together the challenges to come and the roles of the various actors, coordination proving to be essential”, can we read Monday in a press release from the Federal Department of the Interior and the CDS. The end of the special situation implies that the main responsibility for taking measures to protect public health rests with the cantons, in accordance with the law on epidemics.

The future development of the Covid-19 pandemic is currently difficult to predict. However, new seasonal waves are to be expected in the future.

The appearance of worrying variants, which can bypass an existing immunity, is also possible at any time. In this context, the Confederation and the cantons must demonstrate increased vigilance.

They must also prepare for different scenarios to be able to react quickly during this transition phase which will last until spring 2023.

Mental health of young people

The Confederation and the cantons also discussed the consequences of the coronavirus crisis on the mental health of young people and pledged to continue to promote it. The Swiss Health Promotion Foundation, in collaboration with the cantons, will carry out several projects from 2022 which will have as their main theme the consequences of Covid-19 on young people.
