Towards gas shortages this summer in Europe?

The CEO of French energy group Engie, Catherine MacGregor, warned on Monday that without Russian gas, it will be difficult to replenish gas supplies this summer.

According to the CEO, who gave an interview to France Inter, the real problem is for next winter. If it is decided to stop importing Russian gas, it will be difficult to find enough gas for European stocks. In such a scenario, she said, government intervention, such as price caps and demand limitation, would be needed. Russia supplies 40% of natural gas in Europe. In Belgium, 20% of the gas sold by Engie, the market leader, comes from Russia.
