Pennsylvania is the No. 12 best state in the U.S. to work in, according to a new study released this month by Peak Sales Recruiting.

Peak Sales Recruiting bills itself as the world’s top B2B sales recruiters. In its press release, the company said it utilized the most recent data from the Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Bureau of Economic Analysis, and Tax Foundation to analyze a variety of factors, including wages, union representation, work hours, taxes, and remote work.

Pennsylvania’s ranking shows state and local taxes total 6.34%. Also, 13.6% of Pennsylvania workers are represented by a union, and jobs in the state grew by 2.5% over the past year.

In addition, 15.2% of Pennsylvania residents work from home and the average work week is 38.5 hours.

According to the study, the 10 best states to work in are Oregon, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Montana, Delaware, Washington, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska.

Oregon’s top ranking is driven by strong union representation (16.9%), short work week (an average of 37.8 hours) and solid growth rates for jobs (2.2%) and GDP (3.8%).

The ten worst states to work in according to the study are Indiana, Georgia, Tennessee, West Virginia, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi.

Mississippi ranks at the bottom due to owning the nation’s second-lowest job growth rate at 0.5% (Rhode Island lost rates 0.7%), and employees working an average of 39.7 hours per week, on par with Arkansas and Louisiana for some of the longest weeks in the U.S.
