Hundreds of people from Caracas took the emblematic Los Próceres promenade, in the southwest of Caracas, on Monday, wearing spider-man costumes and the popular “Supermustache”, a cartoon character devised by the Venezuelan government, to celebrate the Carnival and enjoy the activities organized by the local mayor.

Crowded in stands, in front of platforms and in front of children’s play platforms, the residents of the Venezuelan capital forgot the restrictions due to the pandemic. They dedicated themselves to enjoying the spectacle of floats and musicians that unfolded throughout the walk.

This is the second Carnival that Venezuela is going through in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic. And, unlike the previous year, outdoor and unrestricted activities marked the festivity that, this time, included parades and concerts in Caracas and other cities in the country.

Although delayed by rain, the central parade in the capital began after 4:00 p.m. local time (8:00 p.m. GMT). The people of Caracas who attended the site were able to see Carnival floats created by cultists from various areas of Caracas. In addition to others from states such as Lara, Falcón, Sucre La Guaira, Bolívar and some brought from Curaçao.

The decorated cars exhibited everything from typical themes of the celebration such as clowns, masks and queens to themes closer to the social and political context of the country. Such as the pandemic, tributes to the Mountain Barracks where the remains of Hugo Chávez are found and others alluding to the “Supermustache” fighting against the “imperialist villains”.
