Beware new scam with fake delivery notices from the Post Office

Fake delivery notices from La Poste distributed in mailboxes allow scammers to try to steal your bank details. This is a first, according to La Poste.

The document looks like two drops of water to a real delivery notice from the postman. Postman letter or handwriting logo, typography, colors, tracking number. Behind this fake review hides a new scam.

“Very easy to believe it and end up giving your credit card information”, writes a Montpellier internet user who received this false notice in his mailbox and launched the alert on Twitter.

To The Dispatch, we did the test: the link and the QR code present on the delivery notice point to the laposte.fr site but redirect to another URL on a fraudulent site. Once connected, you are told that you have to pay to be delivered again: €0.97 for “management fees”. Payment is due within 24 hours. However, the Post Office does not charge anything for a new delivery. Purpose of this scam: to extract your bank details. A method called phishing.

“This is the first time that we have been confronted with a phishing attempt that mixes physical and digital media”, indicates the Post Office to the Parisian.

The company acknowledges that a flaw made it possible to create laposte.fr addresses. The link printed on the fake calling card has been deactivated from the web.

It is impossible to know how many customers have been victims of this scam. La Poste evokes a very localized phenomenon in the Montpellier region. The company will file a complaint.
