Beware of Bitcoin Scams: Alain Simons Sets the Record Straight on Identity Theft

After Adrien Devyver, Sandrine Dans and other personalities from the small screen, it is the turn of Alain Simons, host of Charleroi Matin on VivaCité, to be the victim of identity theft encouraging Internet users to buy bitcoin .

The scam starts on Facebook where a black and white photo of the host is circulating. Accompanied by a black headband, she announces the death of the former star of Coup des dé. “Belgium in mourning: The whole country says goodbye to Alain Simons”, we can read on the sponsored publication from News 24th.

To find out more, we are invited to click on a link supposedly referring to the RTBF website. Which is obviously not the case. By clicking, an article appears in a setting that strongly resembles that of the public service. The headline: “The Bank of Belgium is suing Alain Simons for what he said live”. This claims that Alain Simons went to the set of C à vous on France 5 and gave a live interview where he revealed his “secret” to being rich without working. “Believe me, if I had lived on one salary, I would never have become a millionaire […] Today, the Internet has everything you need to get rich from the comfort of your couch,” he says. Faced with the perplexity of his interlocutor, Bertrand Chameroy, whose identity was also hijacked as part of this scam, he suggested that he invest 250 euros in the “Immediate Bitwave” platform to earn “one million euros in 12-15 weeks”. On several occasions, the article refers, through links, to the cryptocurrency site in order to encourage the Internet user to click.

Don’t let Internet users be fooled. This is indeed a false interview staged by artificial intelligence in order to encourage readers to invest on cryptocurrency sites. Be careful !

And rest assured, Alain Simons is not dead. HE is still among us.

Contacted by us, Alain Simons reacted to the scam: “It didn’t do me anything to see the announcement of my death on social networks. These are scams like there are plenty of lately. It’s beyond me. But, several people called to find out if I was dead! I reassure you: I am not dead!”, he explains before warning Internet users: “What I can tell people is to definitely not click on this publication. It’s a complete scam.”

The host adds that “the RTBF legal department will take care of the matter” and meets the listeners on Monday in Charleroi Matin on VivaCité!
