Bianca Andreescu progresses | The Journal of Montreal

Canada’s Bianca Andreescu continued her U.S. Open run with a victory at Louis-Armstrong Stadium on Wednesday night in New York.

Andreescu triumphed in two sets of 6-2 et 6-4 against Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, 15th seed.

The duel, which began late in the evening, finally lasted 1 hour 29 minutes.

This was Haddad Maia’s first encounter with Andreescu on the WTA Tour.

The only time they had crossed swords, in a junior tournament in 2016 in Texas, the Canadian forfeited in the middle of the third set.

Remember that Andreescu disposed of the French Harmony Tan at the start of the tournament.

In the third round, the Ontarian, who is ranked 48th in the world, will come up against Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia (17th). The latter mocked Russian Anna Kalinskaya in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 earlier Wednesday.
