El Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, accused President Joe Biden of “misguidance” on Twitter in response to the US leader’s tweet that said inflation could be controlled by making corporations rich “pay your fair share”.
The exchange began Friday night with Biden’s tweet: “Do you want to reduce inflation? Let’s make sure the richest corporations pay their fair share.”
Amazon, that paid 3.7 billion dollars in US taxes in 2021 on global revenues of $469 billion, it is often criticized for not contributing enough in federal taxes, given its size.
Still, Bezos, the world’s second-richest man who is often portrayed as the poster boy for income inequality, wasn’t ready to sit back and start taking heat for inflation.
“La Disinformation Board newly created should review this tweet, or maybe they need to form a new Non Sequitur Board instead,” Bezos tweeted, referring to the Department of Homeland Security’s Disinformation Governance Board announced in April. “It’s okay to discuss raising taxes on corporations. Taming inflation is essential to discuss. Smashing them together is just misdirection.”
Bezos and Amazon were frequent targets on Twitter of the expresidente Donald Trumpwho often tried to stymie critical investigative stories from the Bezos-owned Washington Post, attributing it to his personal feud with Bezos.
This is the first public dispute of the founder of Amazon con Biden and there was a day when Bezos was quite active on the social media platform. In addition to arguing with Biden about inflation, Bezos engaged in conversations with other Twitter users about space squirrels and dyslexia.
Twitter has been at the center of the news since Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, offered to keep it private last month.
