In his writing on COP28, Gates highlighted the importance of five key areas responsible for the majority of global polluting emissions: energy, manufacturing, transportation, agriculture and construction.

Gates emphasizes the urgent need to address climate change and argues that these sectors are not only critical because of their impact on the environment, but also because of the investment opportunities they present.

The tycoon sees the transition towards more sustainable practices as an opportunity to invest in clean technologies and innovative solutions that can mitigate the effects of climate change, while boosting economic development.

This vision is based on the potential for growth and the critical need to innovate in each of these areas for a sustainable future.

In an additional column on his website, Bill Gates highlighted how robotics and artificial intelligence represent fundamental pillars for economic development.

He provided concrete examples of projects and companies that directly link these advanced technologies with the previously mentioned sectors of energy, manufacturing, transportation, agriculture and construction.

Gates explained that the integration of robotics and artificial intelligence in these fields could not only significantly reduce polluting emissions, but also optimize processes, increase efficiency and open new market opportunities.

One of the points that Gates highlights is the diversity of the new generation of robots, from those with human appearance and capabilities to others designed to overcome human physical limitations with abilities such as flight or extendable arms.

This variety not only allows for greater integration and usefulness in human environments but also opens a field of applications that previously seemed relegated to science fiction.

According to Gates, for robots to interact effectively in human environments, they will likely need to resemble people. That’s what Agility Robotics, an Oregon company, thought when developing Digit, a robot they describe as the first designed specifically with humans in mind for logistics tasks.

Digit is similar in size to a human and is made to collaborate with people, move around the same places and adapt to the way we work. Unlike humans, Digit can carry much heavier objects and use his arms to reach high places without the need for ladders.

In some developed countries, up to 40% of agricultural costs can be derived from paying workers, who spend long days in the sun and rest at night.

Labor shortages in the agricultural sector often result in the loss of fruits that are not harvested on time.

Faced with this challenge, Tevel, a Tel Aviv-based company, has developed autonomous flying robots capable of examining the treetops and harvesting ripe apples and other stone fruits 24 hours a day.

Some robots require not only an advanced physical structure, but also high intellectual capacity. This is what Field AI seeks to contribute, a robotics company located in Southern California that, instead of manufacturing robots, is dedicated to developing software.

Its focus is on creating artificial intelligence programs for robots from other companies, giving them the ability to understand their environment, move without the need for GPS (whether on land, water or air) and communicate with each other.
