Black celebrated giant slalom victory in Palisades Tahoe

The Carinthian beat four colleagues in front of him with the best time in the final on Saturday. Second was the Swiss Marco Odermatt, three hundredths of a second behind, third was the Norwegian Rasmus Windingstad (+0.36). Schwarz achieved the first Austrian giant slalom victory in the World Cup since that of Marcel Hirscher on January 12, 2019 in Adelboden.

Stefan Brennsteiner took fifth place, Raphael Haaser came in ninth. Patrick Feurstein, Roland Leitinger and Dominik Raschner dropped out in the first round, Manuel Feller was 13th at half-time. in the second.

Odermatt acknowledged his drive to the best time in the first round with a derogatory gesture because of the borderline conditions and spoke of a “race at the limit”. A meter or more of fresh snow had fallen in the ski resort, which was known as Squaw Valley until 2021, in the days before. The implementation of the race was in the balance until just before the start.

The Men’s World Cup is returning to the resort this weekend for the second time and for the first time since 1969. On Sunday (7:00 p.m. and 10:15 p.m./live ORF 1) there will be another slalom. The women were last at Palisades Tahoe in 2017. Mikaela Shiffrin, who won slalom and giant slalom six years ago, described the route as “one, if not the toughest” in the women’s circus, according to the US Ski Association.
