Black Wings commit to team defenders for two years

Niklas Würschl remains part of the Black Wings family. The people from Stahlstadt and the 24-year-old were able to agree on a contract extension for another two years until the summer of 2026.

The defender came to the steel city from Vienna before last season and found his way around well straight away. The Austro-Swede completed the best season of his career in terms of points, scoring three goals and a total of twelve scorer points. He also had a personal best in the plus-minus statistics of +14.

The Carinthian native is currently recovering from the effects of a concussion suffered in the playoff (Game 1 in Salzburg). He also follows both the national team and the final series in the ICE Hockey League, especially since his brother-in-law, KAC captain Thomas Hundertpfund, is still actively involved.

Head coach Philipp Lukas is satisfied with Würschl’s contract extension: “He was a last-minute signing last year and I’m glad that he took advantage of his opportunity. We are very happy with his development and if he continues like this, Niklas Würschl can become an established Austrian national team player. That is our goal, to help him achieve this. He is very talented and has repeatedly shown flashes in productive roles. It was a simple decision for us that we wanted to continue to retain him and we are happy that he decided to do so.”

“I’m feeling well again now and I’m preparing for summer training to come back even stronger. I’ve never had as much self-confidence as I did this year. The whole environment in Linz is very familiar, every player who is here feels extremely comfortable. For me personally, I want to take the next step on and off the ice. As a team, we obviously want to reach the top six again and from then on everything is possible,” said Würschl about his extension.
