Blood donors requested: weather conditions impact reserves at Héma-Québec

The Héma-Québec organization appealed to the population on Thursday to increase blood donations from groups O+ and O- following suffering the repercussions of weather conditions on its reserves, especially following the holidays.

“The needs for these two groups have increased due to the weather conditions of the last few days, which have caused several people to cancel their appointments,” the non-profit organization said in a press release Thursday.

Thus, following a holiday period which is already generally “more difficult in terms of supplies”, Héma-Québec launched an appeal to donors following a few days of bad weather conditions, which led several donors to cancel their donation.

In passing, the organization reports an increase in the needs of hospital centers, while ensuring however that blood reserves remain, generally speaking, at an “adequate” level.

“Héma-Québec will demonstrate the greatest possible flexibility for donors belonging to the two targeted groups who come without an appointment to the center or collection. Every donation counts, because it can save three lives,” we read in the press release.

She invites those who cannot make it to their appointment to take the time to cancel it, to free up time slots for others.
